If you are thinking of having a water meter fitted, read this information before you make any decisions.
Will my water bills be cheaper on a water meter?
The estimated saving on an average £312 water bill is £66.00 per year. As a guide, if you have more bedrooms that people, you will probably find your water bills cheaper on a water meter. For a more accurate idea of how much you would expect to pay for your water on a water meter you can use the water calculator. This asks a few questions about your water usage and then gives you a guide to the annual cost of this on a water meter. You can then compare this to you unmetered bill to see which is the cheaper option. There is a link to the water calculator on the right hand side of this page.
How much does it cost to have a water meter installed?
Water companies install meters for free. You need permission from your water company who will arrange the fitting of the meter. You will also need permission from Poole Housing Partnership. Please use an 'Alteration Form' to request this permission.
What if I later decide I prefer the unmetered charge?
Customers can switch back to the unmetered charge any time within 12 months if they are unhappy with the change.
What if I can't have a water meter installed?
If a meter cannot be fitted, water companies can offer an alternative unmeasured tariff which may be lower than the current bill. Please speak to your supplier for further information about this.
