Can I keep my existing flooring/wall tiles/light fitting/shower, etc when my new kitchen/bathroom is installed?

Where possible PHP will allow you to keep these. However, sometimes it will not be possible, i.e. where the kitchen units are being moved and the existing flooring is not wall-to-wall. PHP will not permit any item to remain that is unsafe.

Can I supply my own flooring/wall tiles/shower when the new kitchen/bathroom is installed?

Residents are allowed to supply their own paint.  Residents' own choice of taps is allowed, and in bathrooms up to five finishing pieces e.g. toilet roll holder, if supplied by the resident, will be fitted.

PHP will not fit a resident's own shower for them, but will put a supply pipe in the wall to allow them to fit their own.  Additional tiling will not be provided unless the shower has already been fitted.

PHP do NOT allow residents to supply their own light fittings, flooring or wall tiles. This is because problems have arisen in the past where residents did not supply enough, and it was difficult to obtain more.

Can I have built in appliances in my new kitchen?

PHP do not allow this due to maintenance issues. Plus, if the resident were to move out, and took the appliance it would leave a 'vacant space'.

The contractor broke one of my appliances (e.g. fridge freezer) when they were installing the new kitchen. What do I do?

Please refer such cases back to the relevant contractor:-

Can the contractor work around my holiday?

It is easier for the kitchen and bathroom contractor, MITIE, to work in an unoccupied property.  If the resident is happy for the contractor to be at their home whilst they are away, this can be arranged.

For heating and re-wiring work the contractors need to go into every room in the house and it is requested that an adult is present whilst this work is carried out.

If the installation date given clashes with your holiday and you do not want the contractor in your home whilst you are away, please contact the relevant Tenant Liaison Officer.

 What does 'Decent Homes' mean?

One of PHP's main objectives is to meet the Government's Decent Homes target by 2010.  To meet the standard, properties must have reasonably modern facilities, be warm and weatherproof.

To achieve this standard, PHP have several programmes of work in place, that have been running since 2004 to deliver better homes to the people of Poole.

PHP has also developed the Poole Standard, which goes beyond the basic requirements of Decent Homes.

The works are procured using cost-effective partnering arrangements, in order to maximise the number of improvements PHP can provide for their customers.
