Frost Damage
Prevention is better than cure.
In cold weather, frozen or burst pipes can cause a great deal of expense, damage and inconvenience. Getting repairs carried out can also take longer due to the amount of work at this time of year. If you take a few preventative measures before winter sets in, you can avoid furnishings and carpets being damaged by water. The following are some tips to help you.
- Ensure you know the location of the incoming water mains stop tap. This is usually under the kitchen sink.
- Make sure any water pipes are well insulated.
- Keep your home warm.
- If any taps are dripping report them to the council so that they can be repaired.
If you are going away for a short time ensure the heating is left on at a low setting. If you are going away for a long period you should have the water and heating system drained down. If you do this you should discuss this with us to avoid any problems when you return.
