Tenancy Agreements
Information about your tenancy agreement.
If you have any questions about your tenancy please contact one of our Housing Officers, see the contact details on the right of this page. General guidance about how tenancies may be changed is given below:
Passing a tenancy to someone else
- You cannot normally pass your tenancy to another person unless the tenant passes away
- Following a relationship breakdown we normally require a Court Order to say which partner should be awarded the tenancy
- Contact a Housing Officer for advise that is specific to your circumstances
Successions (when a tenant passes away)
A successor is the term used to describe the person who takes on a tenancy after the tenant dies. Succession rights are given to spouses and certain family members when the tenant dies. These rights are given in Section 87 of the Housing Act 1985. Please contact your Housing Officer to discuss your particular circumstances, see the links to the right of this page.
Mutual exchanges
The tenant must have found someone suitable to exchange with i.e. a suitable sized property that does not leave them overcrowded. You may exchange to a dwelling that has one bedroom more than your assessed need.
Name changes
Name changes may be done to tenancies, when proof of the change is supplied for our records i.e. Marriage certificate, certificate of Deed Poll or a solicitor's letter.
